چکیده

In this paper, a novel authentication protocol is proposed, which satisfies both security and reliability requirements for group communications in ad hoc networks. The security features include identity anonymity and location intracability, periodic one-way session key and pseudonym identity refreshment with implicit authentication, dynamic joining and leaving an in-progress communication session, and data encryption. The reliability features include efficient Denial of Service tolerance for broadcasting refreshment messages, fault-tolerance for recovering lost refreshment messages, robustness for resisting the clock skews among member nodes and seamless key switch without disrupting ongoing data transmissions. The performance and security analysis show that the communication and computation overhead of the proposed protocol is similar to the existing one, while the security can be enhanced significantly. The simulation results demonstrate the robustness of the proposed protocol under severe Denial of Service attack and poor wireless channel quality. 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Evaluation of a BIBD Based Directional MAC Protocol for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

LEBRP - A Lightweight and Energy Balancing Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Wireless Ad Hoc Networks

A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...

A low-overhead fault-tolerant routing algorithm for mobile ad hoc networks: A scheme and its simulation analysis

The fault-prone nodes in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) degrade the performance of any routing protocol. Using greedy routing mechanisms that tend to choose a single path every time, may cause major data losses, if there is a breakdown of such a path in a faultprone environment. On the other hand, using all the available paths causes an undesirable amount of overhead on the system. Designing a...

A Privacy-Preserving Mutual Authentication Protocol for Vehicle Ad Hoc Networks

Recently, Jung et al. proposed a robust conditional privacy-preserving authentication protocol in vehicle ad-hoc networks. However, Jung et al.’s authentication protocol cannot provide unlinkage and mutual authentication during the communications between the vehicles and the road-side infrastructure units. In this paper, we propose an improved privacy-preserving mutual authentication protocol f...
